STIs prevention with wives left behind

While Tajik men are abroad for seasonal work in the Russian Federation, IOM works with their wives left behind to raise awareness on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV and how to prevent these infections.

The sessions focus on transmission including to newborn, how to avoid it, and where to get free testing and antiretroviral therapy. Migrant workers’ wives also have access to free male and female condoms and STIs treatment in migrant-friendly health points established by the Ministry of Health with the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s support. The project is expecting to reach 150 000 migrants’ wives by Dec 2013.
