Gender-sensitive Cultural Orientation Programme

How would you feel if you had to put a thumbprint on important documents because you did not know how to sign your name?

IOM Ghana taught Martine, a #refugee from the Central African Republic preparing to resettle to Canada, how to write her signature - an ordinary thing for many - but an empowering experience for her. 

Martine and the other refugees in the Canadian Orientation Abroad (COA) programme also learned about subjects such as Canadian history, law, geography, culture, and healthcare, in order to ease their fears and prepare them for a successful integration into Canada. To date, 1,709 refugees in West and Central Africa have been trained as part of the COA programme. Read more
