A Successful Approach to Preventing TB among Migrant Workers in Tajikistan Shared with Central Asian Countries

Qurghon Teppa, Tajikistan, 21 June 2014 – During their visit to Qurghon Teppa, participants of the Regional Forum on Migration and TB from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan learnt much of the ways and approaches of the USAID Dialogue on HIV and TB Project among migrants in Tajikistan.

IOM Training Workshop for NGOs on Identification and Accompaniment for Victims of Human Trafficking

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, January 30-31, 2014 – The IOM Mission in Tajikistan delivered a two-day training for 25 NGO partners aimed at providing information and training materials on ways to identify and assist victims of trafficking (VoT). To lead the training session, IOM invited the head of the Department of Social Protection of the Population from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MHSPP) of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The Problems of Tuberculosis among Migrant Workers and Injecting Drug Users were discussed in Qurghon Teppa and Kulob

Khatlon Region, Tajikistan, January 23/29, 2014 – Local authorities, community leaders, NGOs and medical specialists participated in two round tables organized within the framework of the USAID Dialogue on HIV and TB Project in Qurghon Teppa and Kulyab southern cities, on 23 and 29 January on the outcomes of the first round of the pilot project and discussion of issues that lead to joint and participative decision-making and problem solving.

Training of Trainers on Principles of Outreach Services for TB Prevention among Migrant Workers

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, February 25-28, 2014 – Within the framework of the USAID Dialogue on HIV and TB Project  a four-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on the core principles of outreach work among migrant workers was organized in the IOM office in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.  The ToT was organized for the NGO partners and brought together a total of 26 participants from Qurghon Teppa and Kulob.

IOM Tajikistan Resumes HIV Prevention Campaign among Migrant Workers and Their Families

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, February 1, 2014 - IOM is continuing its activities to help prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV among migrant workers and their families through a new sub-award agreement signed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the further implementation of the project on HIV Prevention among Migrant Workers and Their Families in Tajikistan.

The UN Women - IOM Project Empowers Abandoned Women from Migrant Families in Tajikistan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, March 18, 2014 – The UN Women and IOM Mission in Tajikistan, with financial support from the Government of the Kingdom of Norway, announced the launch of a two-year project aimed at providing support to women of migrant households in need to reduce their potential exposure to domestic violence, human trafficking, or impoverishment by building their skills and access to income generation activities, increasing access to psychosocial assistance, legal counselling, and other public services.

The event brought together government representatives, including local level authorities from the targeted regions of Khatlon province and Rasht Valley of Tajikistan, international organizations, local NGOs, experts, and mass media.

NGO «Аnis» ensured project sustainability

“The USAID Dialogue on HIV and TB Project made us experts in the field of forming TB treatment adherence," makes a joke Rustam Madzhidov, an outreach worker of NGO “Anis.”

Rustam got acquainted with Sharif in December 2012 while conducting a mini-session at his home. Sharif asked Rustam about diagnostics for TB. He mentioned how he wanted to get tested because he was tormented with a cough for more than two months.

Рустам познакомился с Шарифом в декабре 2012 года во время проведения мини-сессии у них дома.  Тогда Шариф обратился к Рустаму по поводу прохождения диагностики на ТБ.
