IOM Humanitarian Border Management Programme continues in Tajikistan

During the period April–May 2014, IOM Tajikistan has delivered the 5^th and 6^th rounds of ten-day joint “Humanitarian Border Management” (HBM) workshops targeting 15 Tajik and 24 Afghan personnel of border crossing points of the two countries. The HBM Course took place at the Training Centres in Dushanbe and Khorog – the capital of Badakhshan Province of Tajikistan.

Instructors of the Training Centres delivered sessions using new model and techniques on HBM. Subjects covered during the training comprised of practical topics of border management and controls, human and migrants’ rights, mass movement of people and human trafficking. These joint trainings aimed at improving trust and cooperation between Tajik and Afghan Border Forces, local communities, civil society and building their capacity to respond to potential and occurring cross-border emergencies, security threats and transnational crimes affecting the national security and stability in the country and across the shared border.

Since August 2013, a group of 100 Tajik and Afghan border guards and officers has been trained and a minimum of six rounds of similar trainings are projected for 2014–2015 that will reach at least 175 border system personnel of the two countries.
