IOM Tajikistan provides fuel to mudslide-affected areas
Norak, Tajikistan, 26 May 2014 – The IOM mission in Tajikistan successfully delivered 1500 litres of fuel to operate machines excavating debris in the town of Norak.
From the 9th to the 12th of May, torrential rains triggered floods and mudslides in several villages of Khatlon and Sughd provinces, destroying and damaging dozens of houses, bridges, social infrastructures and water lines.
These events in Norak affected 21 households and more than a hundred people.
Using IOM funds, the office purchased a total of 1500 liters of fuel and accompanied the truck transporting the fuel to Norak.
Upon arrival, IOM staff met with a local governor to sign appropriate documents acknowledging the receipt and proper use of the supplied fuel.
These 1500 liters provided by the IOM will go towards excavating debris from the roads and canals of Norak that suffered extensive damage from mudslides.
