On August 28, 2013 a working meeting between IOM and partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs), working within the project framework "Prevention of HIV among migrant workers and their families in Tajikistan," took place. The main objective of the event was to discuss the results of project monitoring and to improve the efficiency of work among migrant workers and their families in 35 districts of the country.

During the meeting, representatives of NGO partners attended a presentation by IOM staff on achievements and lessons learned from the project during May-August, 2013. Partners shared experiences working among migrants and presented ideas for measures that could improve access for migrant workers and their families to migrant-friendly services.

Representatives from Migration Service of the Government of Tajikistan, the National Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS, and the National Center for Tuberculosis Control were invited to the meeting with civil society organizations.  Alongside problems of migration and health, technical and organizational issues of the project, including the certification of outreach workers , motivating volunteers , writing success stories  and activities dedicated to the celebration of World AIDS Day were discussed.  Ten community organizations were awarded prizes in the following categories : for the greatest coverage of the target group in May-June 2013: PO " Galaba ," Farhor ; for the active distribution of condoms: NGO " Chashma ," Kabodiyon ; for the active involvement of volunteers: NGO " Sohibkor, " Darvoz;  best outreach workers: Gozieva Boltanisso - Kanibadam Bekmurodova Ikbolbi , Kulyab;  for best knowledge of  beneficiaries:  Olimova Maftuna , J. Rasulov district;  best success story: NGO " Kalam ", Khorog &  to the NGO " Chashmai Khaet, " B . Gaffurovsky district; for active promotion of the project through media: "Center Positive”; and for a well-established referral system:  NGO  " SAID ," Chkalov.

An evaluation by attendees of the meeting indicated that the meeting was organized by partners in a timely manner, and that representatives of NGOs were able to find the answers to all of their questions that have arisen in the course of the project. Participants noted that the most effective sessions were a session on HIV from the point of view of Islam, and sessions attended by representatives of both the Migration Service and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan.
