Thanks to IOM’s “Debris to Shelter” (D2S) program, Genalyn, a mother of 3 children – soon to be four in January 2014 - learned how to make nipa shingles for roofs. Along with 1 million other persons, in December 2012 she was displaced by Typhoon Bopha, one of the strongest and deadliest typhoons in the world. In the wake of that disaster, D2S has provided interim livelihoods for 266 displaced women in Mindanao. Genalyn uses the money she earns from selling nipa shingles to buy food, school supplies and medicine for her children. She is also saving for the new baby to come.
