MigApp: Helping Migrants Save by Comparing Money Transfer Options

IOM – Given the multitudes of tasks you can accomplish with your mobile device, have you ever considered using it to shop around and send money abroad? If not, perhaps, now is the time to start if you haven’t.

Sending money to your family or friends usually means standing in a long queue at a branch of a money transfer agent, filling one of those cumbersome forms. If you, like millions of others, have sent money to loved ones in this way, you would know that it was tiring, slow and above all, expensive.

That's why IOM has developed MigApp, which amongst other interesting and useful features, is a reliable money transfer application that dutifully directs you to the most cost-friendly and safest channels to send money to your loved ones back home.

Imagine having that control in your hands plus a lot more important information you will ever need as a migrant. No more long queues and no more exorbitant charges.

To make sure users get the best deal in transferring funds back home, IOM has partnered with three remittance comparison providers – FXCompared, Moneytis and Mozo.

Here’s how to use MigApp to transfer your money abroad, in three easy steps:

1.  Enter the From, To and Amount fields and tap on the Submit button.

2.    MigApp will send a request to the three remittance comparison providers. After receiving the response from the three providers, MigApp will sort the results according to the cheapest provider in terms of transfer cost.

3.    After seeing the list of Money Transfer Options available, the user may tap on his/her preferred provider and proceed to the money transfer site of the actual provider.

Apart from money transfer purposes, MigApp’s ultimate objective is to reduce the human and financial costs of migration through increased engagement with migrants, furthering IOM’s commitment to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society.

In this digital age, the use of smartphones is no longer uncommon. Most migrants possess mobile devices and now have direct and easy access to these new applications that bring efficiencies and cost savings to what used to be cumbersome and expensive tasks.
