During his opening remarks, Mr. Ahmed Said, a representative of one of the Bossaso Local Authority Councils, said: “The Somalis, Yemenis, and other foreigners fleeing the Yemeni conflict are vulnerable and require all the support they can get. We must also keep in mind that the Bossaso communities receiving all these people must also be supported, otherwise their assistance to the people fleeing the conflict will be limited.” Photo: IOM / Jama Muse Jama 2016

As the situation in Yemen continues to worsen, community leaders in Bossaso, Puntland State of Somalia, have met to brainstorm on ways to more sustainably support the livelihoods and access to basic services of Somali returnees, as well as internally displaced people (IDPs) and the affected community. The top four priorities identified by the community leaders were:  livelihoods support; improvement of community security; hosting community integration sessions; and comprehensive health services.
